EVERY LAST BREATH Excerpt:

Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”

Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?

“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.

The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.

“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.

Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”

“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”

Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”

I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.

I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.

It was my wings.

They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.

Feathers.

“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”

“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.

I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”

Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”

He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”

Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

Cover Reveal: Together We Heal by Chelsea M. Cameron

TWH Amazon GR SW

Today we are revealing the cover for the upcoming book TOGETHER WE HEAL by Chelsea M. Cameron. This is the 4th book in the Fall and Rise series. This book will be released in August. Check out the blurb, and links to the other books in the series, below.

BOOK BLURB:

Trish Grant is not a romantic. Okay, so she may read her share of romance novels, but that doesn’t mean she thinks that some fellow with a six pack is going to ride up on a horse and sweep her (literally) off her feet. Romance like that just isn’t for her. It belongs on the page.

Max Jackson noticed Trish at his cousin’s funeral, of all places. She was hard to miss with her citrus-colored hair, violet contacts and fiery attitude.

Trish was just as captivated by Max. He makes her laugh, which is rare, and it doesn’t hurt that he rocks blue hair and the most killer smirk that drives her crazy. Max is there for her during a rough time and even if she wanted to, she can’t shake him.

There are things about Trish that Max doesn’t know, and she’s not going to tell him. She hasn’t told anyone and doesn’t plan on it, thank you very much. But when Trish’s life is ripped apart by a dark piece of her past, will she let Max in? Or will she give up her potential fairytale to protect her already-scarred heart from further damage?

four-stars

Meet Lilly – talented dancer, quick mouthed, take no shit tough girl who’s also good at hiding the fact that she’s scared. She doesn’t believe in true love or happily ever afters. Unless you count the unbreakable love she has for her overprotective, bullheaded twin brother, who also happens to be her knight in shining armor – which she doesn’t.

Kind of hard to love when you can’t trust, and trust was something that got shattered along with the rest of her years ago. A lot was taken from her at a young age. She’s never gotten over it as much as she’s just refused to deal with it.

The only thing in her entire world that still brings her peace is dancing. Her one and only dream is to dance her way to freedom. That freedom just so happens to be at The Elite Academy of Dance. She’s more than willing to tuck all those dark and nasty things she doesn’t want to think about away, like the darkness that haunts her dreams, and go on pretending, never hoping for anything more – until him.

A story about a girl who pours everything she has into her dancing. Her dream? To get accepted into The Elite Academy of Dance, and spend the rest of her life dancing on stage. To her, that’s easier than dealing with the demons from her past and the scars they left on the person she has become today. A smart mouthed, take no shit, tough girl who’s also scared, lonely, and closed off to accepting anyone new into her heart.

But in the process of wearing a hole in her ballet slippers, and the help of an ever faithful best friend, her bull headed and overprotective twin brother, and a certain boy who knows how to push her buttons, leaves her wanting for things she never thought she’d want, and just does it for her, she starts to think that maybe, just maybe, there is something more worth fighting her demons for.

This is a story of a girl who fights to make her dream come true. And maybe, just maybe, along the way finds a way to trust again, to love again.

Love, Humor, Passion, Artistry, a story of acceptance.

what i thought

I received a finished copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not reflect my review.

I really enjoyed this! Lately all I’ve been craving to read is contemporary and romance, specifically new adult. The content and the plot of this book didn’t disappoint and I’m so thankful I was asked to review this! I’ve only ever read 1 other dance related book in which I enjoyed that as well. As someone who can’t go one day without hurting herself in some sort of fashion, I like living vicariously through people like our main character, Lilly. Her character was perfect (well as to be expected) I loved her attitude and how she showed herself. She lives with her twin brother, Luke by themselves. Their mom passed away and their dad is no one to speak of. So now on their own even before they’ve graduated, they rely on each other to survive.

I love twin bonds. The concept behind that they can understand when something is wrong is just interesting to me. I loved their relationship. Typically siblings fight and bicker.. Constantly. I know from experience, I have 2 siblings. Yes, they bicker, but their bond is honestly special.

Carter is something to swoon over. I loved him to pieces! I love that Lilly and Carter’s first interaction was something unexpected. I literally started laughing that it happened. I loved Lilly’s best friend, Andrea is someone who I’d love to have as a friend. She would do anything for Lilly no matter what it was. I love how supporting they were to each other.

I really loved this book! I recommend to fans of young adult contemporary and those looking for a dance related book. This won’t disappoint! ;)

what i thought

I received a finished copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This does not reflect my feelings towards the book.

This book was so much fun! It was different from other paranormal books I’ve read! Definitely a unique and fun read. Our main character, Nadia is a nightmare inflictor… Meaning, in order for her to survive, she has to invade a host’s dream and create a nightmare beyond their worst fears… Nadia doesn’t like that is how she has to survive and makes herself completely weak before she is forced to create dreams. In this society, people like her are not noticed by society and are kept quiet. Her friend, Alyssa has willingly allowed Nadia to inflict nightmares on her knowing the consequences. Jacqueline is a sin-eater.. Meaning, she eats the souls of people who have sins… Only Hunter had none… So why him?

This was such a fun read… I loved the world, but I felt some explanation was left out. We only get introduced to 4 types of these people and I kept wondering if their were more… Maybe it will be explained more later in the series. :)

As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, I love having more than one point of view. I like that this is told from Nadia and Hunter’s perspectives. I wasn’t a huge fan of their romance, but I did like it. They are definitely a cute couple.

Im definitely looking forward to future books in this series and seeing what happens next! I recommend this to people looking for a quick, entertaining, different paranormal read. :)

*Interconnected Stand Alone*

Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married–I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.

One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.

I’d only use my gun to protect her.

I’d give my life for hers.

I’d cry.

And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl—a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her.

The end of us.

About CHASING RIVER:

Armed with two years’ worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn’t let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it’s because he saved her life, or maybe it’s because he’s completely different from everything she’s left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn’t the kind of guy she’d want to catch.

Excerpt

He comes out of nowhere, from the left.

My only warning is the sound of his feet pounding against the grass. I turn my head just as he plows into my side, sending me sailing through the air. Pain explodes in a dozen different body parts as I hit the hard ground, my lungs grappling for oxygen.

He’s on top of me in an instant, crushing me under his weight, his thick arms roping around either side of my head, smothering me. I can’t breathe, or scream, let alone fight him off right now.

I manage just one fleeting thought—that this man, with his forehead pressed against mine and his ragged breaths assaulting my face—is about to rape me in broad daylight in a city park.

And then I’m plunged into a strange void that devours all my pain and fear.

A wave of pressure races past a split second before all of my senses are swallowed by a deafening bang that rattles my brain and the ground beneath me. Then . . . nothing at all. Only eerie silence and air.

I know that time has passed, but I can’t say whether it’s been a split second or ten minutes or an hour when I realize I’m lying on my back, staring up at a plume of white smoke, the familiar sweet metallic scent of expended gunpowder permeating my nostrils, my head stuffed with cotton. That eerie silence has given way to a high- pitched ringing and I cringe as it echoes in my eardrum. Maybe I cry out, too. If I do, I can’t hear it. I’m struggling to string together enough thoughts to understand what the hell just happened.

“Are you okay?” The question floats in from somewhere distant. And then suddenly a man hovers over me, a fringe of coppery hair like an untidy halo framing his face, staring down at me through mossy green eyes.

“What happened?” I manage to ask, though my voice sounds far away. At least I’m no longer winded.

“An explosion. A bomb.”

A bomb? A chill runs through my limbs as my brain wraps around that word, delivered in a light Irish brogue.

I sense hands slide along my thighs, over my knees, curling to the undersides, but I don’t think to deflect them. “You’ll be fine,” he mutters, a sigh of relief sailing from his lips. He shifts on his knees, making to stand.

And I seize his forearm, surprising myself with a sudden wave of strength as I hold him down. “Stay.”

His muscles tense beneath my fingertips. “I can’t. But please know that I didn’t do this.” Honest, pleading eyes implore me silently for a few heartbeats, and then he’s gone, running—albeit staggered and off-balance—before I can ask more questions. I roll my head to the side and watch him disappear into a line of trees, a dark stain blooming in the material of his vibrant green T-shirt.

Hey guys! Been a VERY long time since I last did this… I’m really slacking here on my blog! I’m sorry guys! But it’s very difficult running a blog from an iPad (which I’m not used to using) so please bare with me until my laptop can be fixed! (This post was written on Friday, so some things could have changed..)

Here’s what I’ve finished already:

destined for dreams

I enjoyed this… I think I’m just into such a new adult kick, that reading anything else just isn’t as good. But the concept of this story was so intriguing and I’m so glad the author contacted me! Such a fun read! :)

What I am currently reading:

one week girlfriend

What’s up next for me:

hey sunshine frenched

I’m reading both of these with one of my book friends and I’m so excited!

What has been put on the “back burner”:

since you've been gone the secret of ella and micha

I had to put down Since You’ve Been Gone because I just wasn’t feeling it… I made it through 100 pages and couldn’t do more… Which stinks because I really want to like it! The Secret of Ella and Micha got put down because I’m reading it with a friend and she lost her copy of hers so I had to stop. ;) I made it 100 pages and hopefully she finds her book soon because I’m dying to continue!

See you (hopefully) next week with my next stack of books! :)

Exclusive Excerpt:

I was done. Finished. Out.

For the past seven years, I belonged to a division of the government that wasn’t on the books. I operated alone. There was a mission: I either failed or succeeded. If I failed, that meant I was dead.

After all the shit I’d seen, done, caused—I survived. It was a fucking miracle.

I was the best at what I did, but there were times I saw my life flash before my eyes. But when you’re the government’s covert assassin, what else was there to expect. If I was captured, I didn’t exist. If I died, I didn’t exist. If I succeeded, I was assigned my next mission.

The plane wheels screeched as I touched down in Alaska. Finally, I was where I wanted to be.

At times, I wasn’t sure I knew who I was anymore. My identity was erased from the system long ago. For the last three months, I’d been working on getting released from the program. It was a slow process with how deep I was in with Black Division.

Those suits knew I wouldn’t share anything I’d done. Hell, half the time I wanted to forget. After three months of debriefing, the government let me out. Of course, there was an underlying threat.

If we so much as suspect you’ve betrayed this country, consider yourself dead, Mr. Bradley.

Yeah, nothing else was new. I wasn’t an idiot. I knew I’d be monitored for years to come, but they wouldn’t find anything.

four-half-stars

Thirty years ago, civilization collapsed. Few survived.
Ten years ago, the aliens arrived…and stayed.
One year ago, I killed two men and went a little crazy.
Today, the aliens took my brother and I will do anything to get him back.

In seventeen-year-old Jax Mitchell’s world, humans are nearly extinct and alien settlers have arrived.

Until recently, the E’rikon have remained segregated in their city and ignored the few humans who have tried to engage them… but now they have taken Jax’s brother. To rescue him, she forms an uneasy alliance with a teenage E’rikon left stranded in the woods. She agrees to guide him to the city if he sneaks her past the human-proof barrier. Too bad it’s not that simple.

Jax, who cannot stand to be touched, finds that she’s drawn to the alien boy with bright green hair and jewel-like scales on his back. And he’s equally affected by her, the courageous redhead with haunted eyes. But she doesn’t know the alien’s true motives and he has no idea that she is much more than she seems.

With the aliens and the humans at odds, the connection forming between the two teens has consequences. What started off as a rescue mission sets a chain of events in motion which threatens not only the remaining humans and the growing alien society, but Earth itself.

what i thought

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review from the publisher. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was amazing!! I’m so thankful Theresa Kay contacted me asking if I’d like to review this.. After seeing Ben from BenajminofTomes on BookTube rave about it, I knew I needed to get my hands on it somehow. After finishing the Lux series (one of my absolute-2nd all time favorite-series) late last year, I needed some more hot aliens! I love finding different books that portray aliens differently. No one knows what they actually look like, so seeing how authors create their own is very intriguing to me! Especially with our new hot alien-hotness, Lir. Who knew scales that run just below the neckline could be so dang sexy!!

Our main character, Jax is a feisty, tomboy who lives with her twin brother, Jace. They are extremely close considering their past and what happened to them growing up. With a catastrophic event wiping out about 90% of the population on Earth, Jax and Jace are just trying to survive. Not only are they the only few left, aliens are now coming to Earth…

Everything was fantastic! Plot, characters, romance, action, writing, everything. Just perfect! I’m really excited to see what happens next and getting to see Lir again. ;)

This was such a fast paced, sexy hot alien sexiness, fun read! There wasn’t a time when I felt I couldn’t continue on. I had to know what was going to happen and I always need more Lir. This book doesn’t disappoint at all and I loved every page! I highly recommend to fans of the Lux series, The 5 Wave and Alienated!
