what i thought

I received a finished copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This does not reflect my feelings towards the book.

This book was so much fun! It was different from other paranormal books I’ve read! Definitely a unique and fun read. Our main character, Nadia is a nightmare inflictor… Meaning, in order for her to survive, she has to invade a host’s dream and create a nightmare beyond their worst fears… Nadia doesn’t like that is how she has to survive and makes herself completely weak before she is forced to create dreams. In this society, people like her are not noticed by society and are kept quiet. Her friend, Alyssa has willingly allowed Nadia to inflict nightmares on her knowing the consequences. Jacqueline is a sin-eater.. Meaning, she eats the souls of people who have sins… Only Hunter had none… So why him?

This was such a fun read… I loved the world, but I felt some explanation was left out. We only get introduced to 4 types of these people and I kept wondering if their were more… Maybe it will be explained more later in the series. :)

As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, I love having more than one point of view. I like that this is told from Nadia and Hunter’s perspectives. I wasn’t a huge fan of their romance, but I did like it. They are definitely a cute couple.

Im definitely looking forward to future books in this series and seeing what happens next! I recommend this to people looking for a quick, entertaining, different paranormal read. :)

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

what i thoughtall time favoriteThis will be making my top reads of 2015 for sure, if not then maybe one of the next 2. I’m obsessed with this!!

Alice Bell has never been allowed to stay out late or go anywhere while it’s dark outside. Her dad forbids it. He is convinced monsters walk among them at night and because of this he lives in a constant state of paranoia. One night, everything in Alice’s life completely changes. It was her 16th birthday, nothing bad could ever happen.. Right? Now sworn to kill the monsters that her dad has trained her to kill all her life.

OH MY GOSH! Words cannot describe how much I LOVED this book! I immediately fell in love with it as soon as I started reading! I was immediately drawn into the world just like that. Gena Showalter is definitely becoming a favorite author only after reading just one book. I’m amazed at how quickly I fell for this book! The writing is so perfectly done and so hilarious! There wasn’t anything that I didn’t love about this book! Everything was done perfectly!

I’ve never read a zombie book before, but paranormal is one of my absolute favorite genres (probably my most favorite). So I knew going into the book that I was most likely going to like how it turned out. OHHH BOY was I off by a long shot! I didn’t just like it, I loved it beyond words!

I don’t even know where to start honestly…

Cole Holland is most definitely without a doubt, swoon-worthy and has made a spot in my top book boyfriends. I cannot describe how much I loved him! When he was first introduced, I knew I was going to fall for him. It didn’t take pretty much anything for that to happen. All he had to do was make an appearance!

I loved Alice’s new best friend, Kat! She was hysterical!! I loved her character so much, she was the perfect best friend! Alice’s grandparents were the sweetest. I loved that they tried to learn the newest slang despite that it wasn’t what teenagers say. They truly cared about Alice and wanted to make her comfortable to talk to them! They are the sweetest grandparents anyone could ask for. :)

Seriously… I’m getting all excited writing this review! :D

Although Cole and Alice are immediately drawn to each other, it wasn’t instalove (which I’m VERY glad it wasn’t). Instalove’s are a huge turn off for me in books; I usually have trouble with them. Had this gone in that direction, I might not have enjoyed it as much. THANK GOSH IT DIDN’T! I’m glad they didn’t rush into a relationship; they took things slow– which by the way, drove me crazy with the sexual tension between the 2!

I’m so excited to pick up the sequel and dive back into this world. But unfortunately I’m starting a new semester for school, so I don’t know when exactly I can pick it back up. :( I’m really missing Cole!

An endless love, for an endless price.

Jack’s immortality is exposed when he prevents a liquor store heist, forcing him to flee to protect his secret—a secret not even he understands. But when he meets Leah Winters—a mirror image of his decades-lost love, Lydia—his very soul is laid bare. He begins to question his sanity. Is she real, and if so, what does that mean for Jack and his secret?

Jack’s not the only mystery man in town. A stranger named Artagan hints at knowledge Jack is desperate to possess. But can he trust Artagan, or does the dark newcomer harbor deadly secrets of his own?

As Jack’s bond with Leah grows, so does the danger to her life. Jack must discover just how much he is willing to risk in order to save the woman he already lost once.

what i thoughtI received a copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Paranormal books are definitely my all time favorite genre, so when the author contacted me about reviewing her book, I couldn’t say no. The synopsis sounded really interesting and I’ve only ever read one other immortal based series being Evermore by Alyson Noel.

This book had so much potential to be a 4.5 or 5 star book for me, but I had some problems with it. My biggest being able to connect with the characters, I felt the characters were just too out of my reach to connect with. I felt I didn’t get enough character development to really understand them; mostly understanding Leah and Lydia’s characters. It’s usually the characters that I look for most in stories, and this one just didn’t hold up for me.

Jack is an immortal and he’s constantly moving from one place to the next to avoid his secret being revealed. Because of this, he doesn’t stay in one town for more than 5 years and doesn’t come back to that town for a while. Jack is now going to a different town where he begins seeing his lost, true love, Lydia. He starts to think he’s going crazy and seeing things, but her name is Leah Winters. Not only is this the only strange situation, he meets Artagan who holds so many secrets that Jack is desperate to understand. But is Artagan someone he can trust with his secret? Jack and Leah start to grow closer, but so does danger.

I was really intrigued in the beginning, but as the story progressed, I started loosing interest. It wasn’t until about 3/4’s into the book did it start picking back up for me. The plot isn’t hard to understand, it’s the progress of it that started to lose my interest. I still have a lot of unanswered questions which I’m hoping will be discussed in the sequel. I also wasn’t much of a fan of how willingly Leah was to go with Jack places.

The story is told through Jack’s point of view which I thought was very refreshing. Most young adult books, well most books in general are told from the female’s point of view or told in dual perspective. So getting only Jack’s character was a breathe of fresh air. I really enjoyed having his point of view as well as getting to see an immortal’s perspective on life, being the 100+ year old Jack is. Jack’s point of view is sarcastic and very fun to read!

I loved learning about Jack’s immortality and the mythology behind it. Mythology is so incredibly interesting to me and to add that as an aspect to the story, made it entertaining to read. The added reincarnation also intrigued me as well. The idea behind the Leah/Lydia reincarnation was really interesting and I can’t wait to see more of it! I do want to see more explanation and back story to Lydia so I can understand her character more. I loved that Jen Printy was able to capture my attention from the beginning, I loved the beginning of the story. She’s definitely a very talented writer and I’m very excited to read more to this series! Artagan was probably my favorite character throughout this book, I couldn’t decide if I should like him or not. He’s definitely a very interesting character and I’m hoping he makes more of an appearance in the sequel!

I’d definitely recommend this to fans of the paranormal genre! Can’t wait for the sequel!

She will now.

Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story.

Retribution has arrived.

what i thoughtI was so nervous going into this because I had extremely high expectations due to the release date being pushed back so many times. Though, I do wish there was more to the ending. This is easily one of my favorite trilogies and I’m still having a hard time letting it go. I adore all the characters and the bizarre, crazy storyline! The world Michelle Hodkin was absolutely fantastic! Her writing style is breath-taking and beautiful. She created a world where your constantly questioning whats going on and by the half way mark of the 3rd book, do things start to become clear. Because of this, I was scared I wouldn’t get a lot of my unanswered questions resolved. Glad to see many did! I still have a few, but maybe that’s just the fangirl in me wanting to know every in and out of this amazing trilogy! Being that this is Michelle’s first series, I will most definitely be reading anything and everything else she writes! She is definitely a talented writer and I adored this trilogy to pieces!

I HIGHLY recommend this trilogy to everyone! The characters are fantastic, the romance is swon-worthy, the plot is.. well, to say the least confusing but amazing at the same time!

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

all time favoritewhat i thoughtI literally don’t think I could write a proper review on her books without completely fangirling… It’s impossible for me when it comes to her books!!

Let me just say this before I start fangirling: This was an amazing sequel and I’m absolutely in love with this world!

I’m definitely still on Team Roth for sure. I did love Zayne throughout this book since we got to see more of him. But it just wasn’t enough to change my mind. And for as much as Roth was such a piece of dung (nicely put), I still love him to death. I seriously at times wanted to punch Roth for being so stupid. I KNEW.. I just knew.

Layla’s character developed drastically throughout this book! HOLY… So much stuff happened within these 400+ pages I’m still in shock! I tried to hard to put the book down to work on homework or study, but it was very difficult. All I wanted to do was continue reading and find out what was going to happen next! I absolutely love the world Jennifer Armentrout created in this series. It’s soo interesting! Especially the gargoyles!! Usually I’m a sucker for first loves, but for some reason, this is an exception. As much as I tried to love Zayne more, it just wasn’t happening for me. I kept waiting for Roth to pop back in and act like his sarcastic, rude self. ;)

Okay, I will confess though that I did love the scenes with Layla and Zayne. But again, as I’ve already said, it just wasn’t enough to change teams for me.

I love her references to things in real life (if that makes sense) things like Supernatural!! I’m addicted to that show and I love when she makes references to that show. Well, and her other references as well. :)

I honestly wasn’t expecting that ending… I knew something unexpected was going to happen, but couldn’t figure it out. I’m definitely shocked at what happened and I’m DYING to know what happens next! I NEED TO KNOW WHO LAYLA ENDS UP WITH!!!! *cough* ROTH! *cough* ;)

It’s been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can’t move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they’re right, but in Cas’s eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he’s seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he’s asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong…these aren’t just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn’t know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn’t deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it’s time for him to return the favor.

what i thoughtI really wanted to like the sequel, I did. But it just didn’t do it for me. I REALLY loved Anna’s character in the first book so I was really looking forward to her character again. Sadly, she didn’t appear as much as I’d hoped. I just felt that the overall story of book 2 was just plain boring. I kept waiting for the book to speed up and get more exciting, but it never happened. It wasn’t scary like the first book or as intense, it was just flat. Even when the “scary” scenes appeared, it was nothing like compared to the first book and the author describing Anna.

I think this is my first ghost love story, and honestly? I don’t think I’m a fan of them… I’m a sucker for love stories and I tend to pick the first couple introduced (in the sense it becomes a long triangle or of that sort), so to see how it ended, I was kind of upset. I’m not trying to punch out all these negative comments, I’m not hating on the book. I just had REALLY HIGH expectations after loving the first book. I did like overall the ending of the story, but there was so much that could have been taken out. I honestly wanted to see more of Anna’s character…

There was one big question I had dealing with Carmel. There was something (that I won’t mention because of spoilers) that happened at the end of the first book that was never discussed in book 2 about her. I was a little thrown off by this because it was a pretty big deal. It was as if it never happened and I have so many questions relating to as exactly what happened with Carmel. At this point I’m questioning if it really happened or not…

I think my favorite aspect of this duology was the world. I’m a sucker for paranormal stories and this reminded me a lot of Supernatural. Cas definitely reminds me of the Winchester brothers and just the world they live in. Obviously my favorite character was Anna if you didn’t already guess. ;)

I’m definitely looking forward to more of Kendare Blake’s books, I already own a copy of Antigoddess and I’m beyond excited to dive into that book!!! :)

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

Yet she spares Cas’s life.

what i thoughtCas was born to line of ghost hunters. His dad was killed by one, so he’s next. Having done this for a little while, moving around with his mom to different towns, new schools, new life, Cas is up for his biggest challenge yet. Anna. The girl dressed in blood. It has been heard that whoever goes to her house is never seen again. Nobody knows where these people go or what happens. Police can never find out either. So now it’s Cas’ job to end this. Cas doesn’t know if he can do it though.. After being in the house and getting to know Anna and how she acts… Maybe there’s a different story as to why she’s doing this.. I mean, Anna can’t kill Cas anyway.

Anna was murdered back in the 50’s by how she was murdered has never been discovered. No one actually ever found her body, but it was told she died and haunts her house. Whoever walks into Anna’s house is dead.

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING! PERFECT Halloween read! This book was so creepy and so gruesome, I was very skeptical about reading it at night! Anna is SOOOO stinkin’ creepy! I was totally not expecting how creepy it was going to be going into the book. I loved the storyline and Anna’s back story! Paranormal has always been one of my favorite genres to read because they are always so much fun to read! I love being able to go into a world that is just not even possible! (As in vampires, werewolves, ghosts–if you believe or not–, fairies, ALL!) Even though I HATEEEEEE scary movies, it’s so weird that I can watch shows like American Horror Story and Supernatural and read books like these… But when it comes to scary movies, OHH HECK NO.

“The house is waiting. Everyone standing around me in the driveway is scared to death of what’s inside, but I’m more creeped out by the house itself. I know it’s dumb, but I can’t help but feel like it’s watching, and maybe smiling, grinning at our childish attempts to stop it, laughing off its foundation as we shake chicken feet in its direction.” — page 192

You can’t help but feel bad for Anna especially when you find out her story. She is definitely one of my favorite characters in the book. For a sixteen year old girl, she makes the Hulk look weak! I love (& am also creeped out) how strong she is! Kendare Blake does an AMAZING job at creating very vivid and gruesome scenes that you want to make sure your safe in your home with every single light on. I will tell you, there was one night that I was really scared to read more! I was home alone (& I already don’t like being home alone), so reading this book definitely freaked me out! My biggest problem was the side characters… I felt we didn’t get to see much of the side characters, more so people just kind of on the side lines by Anna and Cas. I wasn’t really into the romance that developed, I was honestly a little on the fence by it.

Nonetheless, I absolutely loved this book! I would highly recommend this as a perfect Halloween read, or anytime for that matter.
