My Reading Stack (#16)

reading stackHey guys! I’m sorry for not posting last week! I had a test in my math class on Sunday so I was focused on that. Plus I didn’t read much because of it. This week hasn’t been any better. My final for the math class is today so I’ve been studying for that. I have only finished 2 books since I last posted..

What I Finished:

the hazards of a one night stand caught in the glow

  • The Hazards of a One Night Stand by Alyssa Rose Ivy: I think one of my favorite types of romance is the small town ones. I think it’s because I can relate (somewhat) most to them and living in small town as well. Mallory who is our main character in this, is a lot like myself. When I first started college I was DYING to get out the town I’m in now. (I did, but I don’t want to go into my personal life, but I’m back) I loved Mallory/Colt a lot more than Juliet/Reed. Again, it could possibly due to the fact that it’s a small town kind of romance.  Plus, it could also be a factor of the author’s writing improving. I was completely engrossed in this story! I know with the first, I could put it down at parts and be okay not to continue immediately. This wasn’t the case for the sequel! (Now, don’t take it the wrong way- I LOVED the first as well).
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆½
  • Caught in the Glow by Eva Chase: I loved how unique and original this was! I was excited when the author contacted me saying it was a supernatural/paranormal new adult book. I’ve only ventured the romance side of new adult, so to see something like paranormal thrown in was fantastic! my only problem was understanding the Glowers. I’m still confused about them… overall I really enjoyed this book! more thoughts/full review will be up on my blog in about a week or so. :)
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆

What I Will Be Starting This Week:

full measures finding a way love always

I’m hoping to knock all 3 of these out this week. Especially with my math class ending today I’ll have more free time. If I do finish all 3, I have more review books. You’ll see next Sunday what books I will pick up if I do finish these 3. :)

One small town boy, one girl who wants more, one roll in the hay…

Hooking up with your high school crush is a bad idea, a really bad idea. It was only supposed to be one night, one brief departure from my real life, but nothing ever works out exactly the way you plan.

Colton Waters was everything from my past that didn’t fit into my present, so why did he have to show up at my college and pledge the one frat I couldn’t avoid?

Because nothing is ever meant to happen just once. At least not the life changing things that mean the difference between falling apart and falling in love.

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from the publisher. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I think one of my favorite types of romance is the small town ones. I think it’s because I can relate (somewhat) most to them and living in small town as well. Mallory who is our main character in this, is a lot like myself. When I first started college I was DYING to get out the town I’m in now. (I did, but I don’t want to go into my personal life, but I’m back) ;)

Mallory is starting her sophomore year at college and along with her best friends in her sorority, Juliet (who was the main character in the first book) and Cara. Mallory has a one-night stand with Colt, one of her best friends in her home town. She has had a crush on him for a long time and regrets having the one night stand almost immediately so she goes back to school early. But now he’s showing up everywhere she turns.

I loved Mallory/Colt a lot more than Juliet/Reed. Again, it could possibly due to the fact that it’s a small town kind of romance. :) Plus, it could also be a factor of the author’s writing improving. I was completely engrossed in this story! I know with the first, I could put it down at parts and be okay not to continue immediately. This wasn’t the case for the sequel! (Now, don’t take it the wrong way- I LOVED the first as well).

I’m becoming a big fan of Alyssa Rose Ivy! These books are making me wish I had done the university route and did the whole sorority deal! But I’ll just live vicariously through these stories. ;)

I’m excited to continue this series at some point! I love these characters and have become very attached!

About LIFE AFTER FALLING:

One tangled cassette tape. Two tangled lives.

Cassidy snaps. She quits her job and fiancé all in the same day and ends up on her parents’ doorstep. In the midst of everything she is determined to fix a broken cassette tape that she thinks holds the key to rediscovering happiness.

On her quest to fix the tape she meets Leo, a guy as down on his luck as she is lost. What starts with curiosity leads to something resembling a relationship and maybe a chance at love.

Excerpt:

“Can I look?” I gestured to the movie collection he had piled next to the massive TV.

“Sure.” He walked over to the kitchen counter and put down his keys, wallet, and phone. I liked that he put down his phone. It meant he was all there with me. I’d worked hard to break my own addiction to technology.

“Quite the collection.” My eyes ran over the titles.

“I’ve picked up a few over the years.”

“What’s your favorite?” I kneeled down to see them better.

“You can’t ask me that.”

“Why not?” I raised an eyebrow.

“Because I don’t have one favorite. Each category is different.”

“But no overarching favorite?”

“Not for movies, but I do for music. Movies are like food while music is like women.”

“Uh, do I want to know what that means?”

“Movies each have different purposes for me. Some make me laugh, some make me think. Some are entertainment. Like food. How can you compare a burger with a slice of cake? They serve different purposes.”

“Got it, but why is music like women?”

“Music has one purpose. To move someone. I can pick one favorite. The same goes for women. Who needs variety if you can find everything in just one?”

Words had never turned me on so much. “That’s an interesting way to view things.”

“It works.”

I stood up. “But what if you never find one thing that has everything you need? Do you keep searching?”

My Reading Stack (#15)

reading stackHey guys! How’s y’alls weekend going? Mine’s been busy with my math class and work, but it’s good! Can’t believe it’s already over! :( Time is seriously flying by even faster!!! So let’s get this started! :D

What I Finished This Week:

a shattered heart alexa loved broken

  • A Shattered Heart by Tiffany King: MY FULL REVIEW IS ALREADY UP- This is condensed, immediately after finishing thoughts…. wow… This book was so much more than I expected it to be! I have been looking forward to Kat’s story since I found out this would be hers. I’m still trying to process my thoughts so I’ll have more on a full review tomorrow on my blog. I recommend this series to the obvious: fans of NA, but also people who are wanting to start out in new adult and not get into all the sex scenes and everything. also someone wanting to start new adult as well as get themselves into darker reads. This series is DEFINITELY not a light read. It’s gut-wrenching, heart-breaking and every other word that can describe heart ache. But, it’s also amazing and Tiffany King is a fantastic writer!!
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Alexa Loved by T.R. Cupak: FULL REVIEW WILL BE SHORTLY- Not much after reading because this was a VERY emotional read, but I will say you’ll need 20 boxes of tissues… Though I’m still heart-broken from what happened and I wish it didn’t happen, I loved the end result. My heart has been torn between both Devin and Ethan and the decision wasn’t going to be easy, that was certain… But overall, despite my heart, I still very much enjoyed the ending. I adore T.’s writing and I love both of these books immensely! Definitely pick up, but be warned, you’ll need tissues! ;)
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Broken by Annie Jocoby: Full review will be up on my blog later this week. I really enjoyed this story overall, but my biggest problem was Nick. His character and development threw me off and though I liked him, some of his choices put me off. I loved Scotty’s character. I loved her roommate and best friend, Jack. More thoughts on full review. (I just finished this today, so I’m still trying to process my feelings)
      FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆½

What I’m Currently Reading:

Well, to be EXACT, I’m not reading anything at the moment… But these are the ones currently on the “back-burner” at the moment because of review books.

an ember in the ashes after we collided meant for her

I will continue these books when I can knock out a couple more review books. An Ember in the Ashes will probably be the first finished just because I was supposed to read this in September for a book club I’m apart of, but didn’t get to until now.

What’s On My Plate For Next Week:

the hazards of a one night stand caught in the glow full measures

These are my next 3 review books. I will be reading in this order- I’ve already made a list with the order I need to read them in. Most books to review that had/have dates are either later this month or already passed. I do have a test next Sunday, so I’m not sure I’ll finish all 3 of these, but hopefully at least 2 of them for sure! :)

I’ll see you guys next Sunday with what I read!

……. Or my next post. ;)

My Reading Stack (#14)

reading stackThe 2 books I finished this week were AMAZING! All time favorites!!! So let’s get started! :D

What I Finished:

sweet obsession sacrifice

  • Sweet Obsession by J. Daniels: (Click on the picture of the book to view my full review) oh my god. I’ve been dying for Brooke’s book since I read the original 2 Sweet books early this year. At first, I wasn’t a big fan when she was introduced, but she quickly became one of my favorites in Addiction and Possession. I knew her story was going to be tough for her considering her character. I loved when Mason was introduced in Bama Boys. At that point, I already knew he was getting a story so I was already excited. But to see them together in this story combining both series, I adored it. I love that we got to see some of the Bama characters in this! I love how this played out and I will be honest… I wanted to strangle both characters come the 88-90% percent mark. :P
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆
  • Sacrifice by Adriana Locke: I was sooo close to chunking my Kindle across the room. The last 12% felt like I was on the verge of cardiac arrest. My heart was beating like crazy waiting to see what was going to happen! I love the way it ended – despite almost chunking my Kindle… I didn’t expect to fall in love with this book as much as I did. To the point of this being on my top favorite books of the year. I knew by the 1/3rd mark, it was going to be a favorite. I adored this book so much! I will have more in depth on my review when I have time to process my feelings. My full review will be up on my blog. I’m really looking forward to more of Adriana Locke’s books!!
    • FINAL STAR RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆

What I’m Currently Reading:

a shattered heart after we collided meant for her

A Shattered Heart will be finished after my test today! :D I’m in love with this book so much! Tiffany King has become a favorite author of mine this year! This is now my fourth book by her and I can’t get enough! Both After We Collided and Meant for Her have been put on the back-burner for some time now due to review books. I have been SWAMPED with review books and until I can make a dent in it, these are put on the back-burner. Well, actually Meant for Her IS a review book, but I have a couple books that have specific dates to have read and reviewed by. ;) I’m not that far into it, but so far it hasn’t wowed me enough to want to pick it back up. :( I hope it gets better when I pick it up again; the synopsis sounded promising!

What’s on the Agenda for the Week:

alexa loved broken the hazards of a one night stand

I’m actually going to sit down today after my test to look at what my review books are and if they have a date to review by. If I’m right, these are my next 3 books! Alexa Loved does have a date to be reviewed by and Broken and The Hazards of a One Night Stand don’t. But, they were sent to me quite a while ago and they need to be read and reviewed soon. ;) I’m very excited for all 3 of these books and can’t wait to dive into them! :D

Review: The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy

four-stars

This isn’t a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I’d be happy to recommend one, but I don’t have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It’s the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it’s also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.

what i thoughtI received a finished copy from InkSlinger PR in exchange for my honest opinion. This does not reflect my feelings towards the book.

Juliet is starting college soon and her cousin whom she is very close with has given her a list of things to accomplish. One of them being skinny dipping. While away at the family beach house, Juliet decides to go skinny dipping late at night in her pool, thinking she would be alone… Not quite. Dylan comes into the picture, who of which Juliet has put on a pedestal for pretty much her entire life. She has fantasized about Dylan countless times and now it’s coming true. But as he starts spending more and more time with her, she’s starting to wonder if maybe it’s too good to be true?

Juliet has pledged to a sorority in which we meet Reed. Reed acts like a big brother figure to Juliet, offers her a job, a friendship and someone to talk to. But maybe that’s not what Reed or even, Juliet wants. But who will she choose?

I adored this. Yes, it was predictable and not what I expected. But by that, I mean it in a good way. I was nervous come the 60% mark and nothing was changing, but the last 3/4ths made up for that. The one thing I wanted more of was the characters and more back story, especially with Juliet. I felt we got a good chunk of Reed’s past, but not a whole lot on Juliet. I didn’t feel much of a connection to the characters and fully understanding them.

This borders YA and NA. NA enough because our character is 18 and in college and is obviously an adult doing adult things. ;) YA in the fact that a lot of NA’s I’ve come across, go in detail when things get heated. This doesn’t. It goes into a little detail but nothing like some NA books get. This would be perfect for someone wanting to branch unto NA, but not wanting to be immediately thrown into descriptive sex scenes. Also, a perfect summer read.

I like how this is different from a lot of New Adult books I’ve read lately. Most main characters are still virgins, and in Juliet’s case, she isn’t. Overall, I loved Juliet’s character! I loved all the sarcastic comments coming not only from her, but other characters as well.

I read it all in a day. Cute read, would definitely recommend. I’m excited to continue with this series as well as read more by this author. :)

“This kind of feels like the beginning of a YA novel.” She laughed.
“No. Trust me. The contents of this letter are not YA appropriate.” — The Hazards of Skinny Dipping, Alyssa Rose Ivy

“Do you always get Twizzlers at the movies?” He sipped his soda.

“Yes. I love them, and popcorn is the worst movie theater food.”

“The worse? This I have to hear.”
“You can’t eat popcorn without getting thirsty, which means drinking a lot, which means going to the bathroom during the best scene of the movie.”The Hazards of Skinny Dipping, Alyssa Rose Ivy
