When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.

Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.

That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.

The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

what i thought

This was my second book I’ve read by Renee Carlino and so far this is my favorite. This quickly became an all time favorite book for me and will most likely make it onto my top reads of this year. This is so different from typical NA romance books. Renee Carlino is a fantastic writer if you are not familiar with her books…

I love the whole story behind this. It’s a book within a book. How the story unfolds and how our main character, Emiline finds herself as well as learning about her past in one of the most COOLEST ways!

Who doesn’t love second chance romances?! I EAT THOSE UP! Second chances make some of the sweetest stories ever because of the relationship in the beginning – I just find them the best. I love that the characters have known each other pretty much their entire lives, became best friends, hung out with each other, grew up together, E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

I always find writing reviews for books that I absolutely adore are the hardest to write. There’s nothing to pick at because it was all done PERFECTLY. All I want to do is just gush about this book. It’s very difficult to find the right words to fully describe my love for this book!

Renee has such a unique writing style – it’s just so pretty!
Have I convinced you to buy a copy yet? Seriously… This book is just gush-worthy. Everything about this is just gorgeous!!!!!

A freak ski accident brings nineteen-year old Mia Kinney within minutes of death. Hurt and scared, Mia is calmed by the southern drawl and clear green eyes of her rescuer.

Twenty-one year old Dylan Blackburn is one of the first Ski Patrol members on the scene. As his patient is airlifted to the local trauma center, he can’t shake her from his thoughts.

As Mia fights for her life, Dylan, is haunted by the blond hair beauty, and knows he needs to make sure she’s going to be okay.

With a troubled past Dylan has vowed never to completely open himself up to another girl, but Mia continues to knock down every wall he’s constructed. When his past arrives at his front door and threatens once again someone that he loves, will Dylan be able to save Mia yet again? Or will he be too late this time?

A story of love, friendship, and the determination to turn a horrible experience into something worthwhile.

what i thoughtI received a finished copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Mia is one of Bailey’s best friends. She’s spunky, strong, and determined. One day she goes on a skiing trip with her friends and a freak accident happens to Mia almost killing her. If it wasn’t for Dylan and his co-worker just being feet from where she was, she wouldn’t have survived what happened. Dylan has a past he never thought was going to come forth, but Mia continues to break through those barriers he’s put some many years constructing. One day Dylan’s past makes an appearance threatening to take away all that he loves again.

The last 100 pages or so keep you on your toes wanting more and I knew I wouldn’t go to bed not knowing what was going to happen next. Usually I can go to sleep and continue the following day, nope.. Not with this one!! How I managed to stay up that late finishing is beyond me… But this story was just as amazing!

I have no doubt the next book(s) will be just as amazing! I fell hard for Dylan (who wouldn’t!? He has a southern accent– one of the things I like most). ;) From those that have also read this book, say that Dylan is their favorite too. It’s true, you can’t help falling for his character. Especially that dang accent!!! Mia was just awesome. Words cannot describe how amazing and inspiring of a person she was. This is based on a true story, which is discussed at the very end of the book.

The suspense was ON POINT. I seriously could not put this book down. It is crazy just how quickly things can turn for the worst. I’ve never really had the urge to go snowboarding, I’m already not coordinated on just bare land… I cannot tell you how many times I’ve hurt myself.. Trying to snowboard would be scary. But reading this definitely made me more nervous for sure.

Just like book 1, I get giddy thinking about these books; I kid you not. Melissa has become an auto-buy author for me, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t read from her they are just so stinking good!

The love and support that just POURS from these characters is just so incredible, it’s almost unbelievable. These characters have completely stolen my heart (not just Mia and Dylan I mean, but all characters involved at this point).

Guys, if you haven’t read these books yet, I cannot recommend them enough! Not only is the writing gorgeous, but they are quick paced books that you can’t put down no matter how much you try to do so.

On a bitter cold winter night Bailey Walsh’s family was killed in a traffic accident. Two years later as she lives with her aunt and uncle in Southern California, Bailey is still plagued by the nightmares of that terrible night. Everywhere around her are reminders of what she lost. Even her aunt, in a cruel twist of fate, is not just her mom’s sister, but her identical twin. Babysitting Riley, a spunky two-year old, is a sweet distraction and one constant light in her life. One day as she takes Riley to the park she meets Collin McKenna, a senior at her high school and her life is changed forever as he helps her find herself and realize her life is worth living. As the romance between them grows her broken heart begins to heal. However, still nagging in the back of her conscious is the fear that her new found happiness could come crashing down and she could lose everything she loves, yet again. Outside forces begin to tear them apart and Bailey must learn to trust in herself and realize that she is worthy of happiness. That sometimes love and healing comes in unexpected forms.

what i thoughtI received a finished copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is a coming of age romance story where our main character, Bailey has lost her entire family in an accident. It’s been 2 years since the deaths of her family and she is currently living with her aunt and uncle. Living life after everything was taken from her, to make it worse, her aunt is her mom’s identical twin. One day while taking Riley, a 2 year old she babysits for to the park, she runs into senior, Collin. He has completely changed her life the closer they get to each other. But when something comes between them, can they survive it?

Absolutely freaking loved every bit of this book! Definitely didn’t expect how devastating and sad this book was going to be. I don’t usually pay attention to synopsis’ because I just like going in blind. I knew this was going to be a clean romance that just bridges the NA genre. That’s what I liked most about it. This book was BEAUTIFUL! I cannot stress that enough. Melissa A. Hanson is such a talented writer! I was worried going in that I wasn’t going to like it because all I’ve been reading for the past year is pretty much NA romance. Nope, this book was beyond words amazing. I just get giddy thinking of this book to be honest. This book definitely does not get the love and appreciation it should have.

I was getting some serious anxiety towards the end because I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. That’s how completely immersed I was into this story. Books like these are ones I never forget. Even almost a month after reading the book and writing my review right now, I remember everything that happened. This is one of those that will leave an imprint on you.

Loved it all, especially the extra point of view, I thought that was awesome having that. We don’t just get Bailey and Collin’s point of view, but another character we meet in the book. I won’t spoil who it is, I want to leave that a secret and for you to figure out! :)

Recommend to everyone! This can be read for those wanting to start bridging to NA romance. This is perfect for that! There is no sex and for someone wanting to dip those toes and test it out, this is perfect! It’s perfect for all ages honestly. This book, I just cannot contain my love for it! Your going to love it and fall for the characters!!

My life is a secret.
His life is dangerous.
We’re both stubborn, calculating, and controlling.
Mark Dixon doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know his games could cost us our lives. I have to do what is necessary to keep us alive, and that means guarding my heart.
But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

If any of you make me choose between Twilight, Muffin and Dreamboat, I might cry. Usually I have a favorite in a series, but I LITERALLY CANNOT pick, I love these 3 men so so much and all for very different reasons! Asking that kind of question is like trying to ask what my favorite book/music/movie is… I can’t ever pick.

I’m so glad this wasn’t a cliffhanger- if you’re familiar with Corinne’s previous 2 duets, you’ll know those have cliffhangers, this one does not. Like the previous 2, this is intertwined. This follows Mark and Charlie – both characters we meet in Consolation Duet. (Mark before in Belonging Duet). Even though I read backwards and read the Consolation Duet first, I have been absolutely beyond excited to read Mark’s story – he was HILARIOUS.

Because this is a standalone, I don’t want to give too much away by doing a synopsis. I think the one above can give you something. I do recommend reading the other 2 duets first since they will make an appearance in this one. Unless you don’t mind being spoiled (some things from both couples books get mentioned), by all means read this first. But you should meet Jackson and Liam first! Mark makes plenty of appearances! ;)

As I’ve already mentioned several times just in this review, I have been so excited for Mark’s story. When you meet him in the previous books he just never seemed the guy to want to settle down, until Defenseless. I can sit here and type why I love Mark so much… But then that would lead into talking about Jackson and Liam too. I can’t gush about these books enough!!!

Mark and Charlie are very alike and different at the same time. Charlie doesn’t make it easy for Mark; their banter was honestly probably my favorite thing. I just about highlighted every conversation. This is one of those where you start laughing out of nowhere — not in your head kind of laughter.

Romance, action, humor and suspense… What more could you want in a book?! :)

“The dogs that deserved a chance, the guy who needed a second, and the girl determined to save him.”

My name is Emma Sawyer.

I met Charlie and Wyatt on the same sultry, summer day. It was unexpected, leaving a feeling in the pit of my stomach like the time I drove too fast over Beckett Hill. The moment happened out of nowhere, all fast and quick and a little strange. Or maybe that was just Wyatt’s personality.

It was Charlie that brought us together. Little Charlie with those ridiculous ears. I found the dog, waiting in a pool of his own blood. Waiting for someone. Waiting for me.

Now Wyatt, he wasn’t waiting for anyone. At least that’s what he said, except I saw something different in the broken guy all alone out in the woods. I knew he needed me before he knew it himself.

Wyatt with his hidden dimples. Wyatt with his warnings to stay away. He was a hard lump of coal, ready to burn everything around him. The more he burned, the more it pulled me into the pain I saw etched on his troubled face.

I wanted to help Wyatt. I wanted to save him like he had saved all the Charlies in the world. He told me not to fall for him, but I did anyway. I fell hard and fast and deeply in love with Wyatt Caulfield.

But that was before I knew his secret.

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I can’t even contain my emotions… I read The Mason List this summer and absolutely fell in LOVE with the story and the writing. S.D. is truly a gifted writer and it shows again in this book. This book was not sunshine and rainbows. I’m not going to spoil anything because going in, you don’t really know much and I’m going to keep it that way in this review.

I’m honestly not even going to attempt to write my own synopsis because I fear I will spoil something. This book sounds vague, but trust me when I say, it was completely worth it! You had no idea what was going to happen, who Wyatt is, what has he done and why Emma isn’t supposed to chase him.

I WILL say this involves animal abuse – not something too spoilery, but something I needed to mention… I like that authors are adding this subject into books and S.D. makes this a big portion of the book. I couldn’t help but get teary eyed MANY times while reading and just from the mention of the animal abuse. You MIGHT want to have a couple boxes of tissues with you or maybe some chocolate. :)

I feel like this book truly messed with my emotions. I was shocked at how well S.D. played with my emotions! I’m not trying to make this book into some TEAR jerker and just SOOO upsetting book, but it seriously played with my emotions hardcore!

Everything about this book was tragically beautiful, which I think is the best way to describe it. This book broke my heart MANY MANY times and I honestly lost count after the 10th time. This book truly affected my emotions. I can’t stress my love for this book, The Mason List and Mrs. Hendrickson enough.

You are going to fall for Wyatt and the entire story! Be prepared!!! <3

When it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was worse.
My life turned into a whirlwind of destruction before I even got the chance to love her.

She could have been my angel, my saving grace; I never gave her the chance.

I gave myself a taste of her angelic kiss, convincing her to love with everything she had. Then I destroyed her. I destroyed both of us and I felt nothing as I did it.

I didn’t feel anything in my sorry state.

We both had secrets and both of them would have destroyed us in one way or another. Hers could have possibly been bigger than mine, but I doubted it from the start. I knew I had the quality of devastation within me the entire time.

After all, I’m the king of lies. I’m the king of addiction. I’m the king of turmoil. I’m the king of motherfucking heartbreak.

Wow, I’m kind of at a loss for words! T.E. Black has done it once again to bring another roller coaster of emotions to your Kindle. If you thought Finding a Way was a roller coaster, just you wait until this.
Shay Kirby is a single mom just trying to find her happy ending like everyone else. She has been kicked around and put down many times through her life. Trent Wallace is your typical badboy manwhore. He’s sexy, tattooed, and owns a tattoo shop. Both Shay and Trent have secrets that neither want to reveal. They are immediately attracted to each other right off the bat, but try to distance themselves. When Trent starts to push to see Shay more, secrets start slipping through the cracks. The biggest ones staying hidden for as long as possible. Having a relationship start with secrets and lies, makes for a very rocky relationship for the 2.
This book could have gone so many ways and I’m very happy with the ending! I was getting very nervous about how this book would play out. I caught on to a couple of the secrets but some completely took me by surprise.
You will hate Trent to the ends of Earth, want to punch him at times, but then fall hardcore for him. He’s a very frustrating character, yet you can’t help but fall in love with him like Shay did. Especially the ending… My heart.. I was sooo close to happy tears at the end and usually it’s sad tears. I don’t normally get happy tears while reading, so I guess that should say something?
Shay was such a bad@$$ character, I loved her character from the beginning. She is extremely determined that Abby (her daughter) get the best out of life that she can provide. Seeing their relationship is one that I think all moms and daughters want.
I loved seeing the original 4 again (Callie/Mac & Sierra/Evan) and getting introduced to some new characters was just as amazing! I know Gunner’s book is going to be a roller coaster as well.

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes an electrifying new spin-off series,Saints of Denver, featuring all the characters fans have been dying to read about.

Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk, he’s all denim and flannel.

Zeb’s wanted the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her. It doesn’t matter how many smooth moves he makes, the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest—either that or she doesn’t return it. Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior.

But just as things start to heat up, Zeb is blindsided by a life altering moment from his past. He needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. He can’t risk what’s at stake just because his attraction to Sayer feels all consuming. But as these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, battling together to save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide can no longer be ignored.Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller are as different as two people can be. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and kill it and grill it. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk while he’s denim and flannel.

The differences between the two of them don’t stop Zeb from dropping every hint he can think of that he would like to get to know her on a more personal level, but Sayer seems oblivious to his interest or is just too nice to tell him to take a hike. To Sayer, a guy like Zeb could never be interested in someone as reserved and boring as she is. She’s never been with anyone that was hot enough to melt the icy exterior she’s had wrapped around hera since her awful childhood. But what if Zeb is the one who might finally thaw her out…?

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from Ink Slinger PR. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was my first book of the year and 2nd book I’ve read by this amazing author! Rule was one of my favorite books last year, so I had a feeling I would love this book just as much. Jay Crownover creates such swoon-worthy men, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to fall for their stories. :)
Zeb and Sayer couldn’t be any different – as it goes, opposites attract! She’s a lawyer and he runs a construction company. Both have had things happen in the past, both affecting them hard. Sayer is an “ice queen” and Zeb was a prisoner. Zeb helps Sayer build her dream home and she helps him deal with a case. They start spending more time with each other; Zeb wants to be with her and Sayer doesn’t want to (but she secretly does). Can Sayer get passed her issues from her past or will it drive Zeb away?
I have only read Rule from the Marked Men series so I was really worried I would get spoiled. Built is a spin-off from Marked Men so we do see some of the boys from the previous series make their appearance with their significant others. My biggest concern was having major plots spoiled from the series, but that wasn’t the case. Yes, we get a glimpse of who they end up with and what happens years down the road (as in kids), but that didn’t bother me. I have been dying to continue the MM series since I read the first, now I feel even more excited to do so.
I have fallen completely head over heels over Zeb (then again, who wouldn’t?!). I haven’t met too many bearded men, let alone ones that are also tattooed. I think Zeb has ruined all other future book boyfriends for me. ;) I was worried after the first few chapters that I wasn’t going to fall for these characters, but it progressed VERY quickly and as I said, I fell hard. I couldn’t help but be frustrated at Sayer, it drove me crazy. But seeing her work through her issues and really try, it warmed my heart and she definitely made the list for favorite females.

I hope Poppy gets a story- I feel like hers is going to be a struggle (DUH), but I really enjoyed her character. If I had to pick a favorite side character that I feel deserves their own story– she would be it!
You guys have to pick this up! Even if you haven’t started MM, or have only read a few, this CAN be read as a standalone- it is mentioned in the beginning. Just know, you will be spoiled with who ends up with who and get a glimpse of the couples’ futures. This however, wasn’t something that bothered me. I’m very serious about not skipping books in series, even if this is a spin off. But with this, I feel like its okay to skip.
