Alexa Morgan lost her mother when she was two. At eighteen, her father and stepmother died when a devastating earthquake hit the Bay Area. Only one person has remained a constant in her life: Devin.

Devin has been Alexa’s best friend since childhood. The two are inseparable—or they were until Devin declared his love for her at sixteen. When Alexa can offer him only friendship in return, Devin retreats, brokenhearted.

Alexa, on the other hand, longs for Ethan, the boy next door. Four years older than her, and with an ever-changing roster of girlfriends, Ethan is everything Devin isn’t: wild, sensual, and unpredictable.

In the aftermath of the deadly earthquake, Ethan makes his move on Alexa, who reciprocates in a confused whirl of grief and desire. When Ethan leaves town the next day, Devin comes back into Alexa’s life, offering support and expecting nothing in return.

Alexa begins to see the advantages of Devin’s quiet, stable love. Can she get past the friendship hang-up while trying to forget bad boy Ethan? It’s a choice that will change her life forever.

what i thoughtThis book hurt. It was a roller coaster of emotions and definitely is not a light read.

Alexa has lost all 3 of her parents, her birth-mom, dad and step-mom. Her birth-mom died when she was 2, so she doesn’t have any memories of her. Alexa calls her step-mom her mother. They were extremely close. One day, while Alexa is at the house, Ethan her neighbor who is 4 years older than her shows up and they experience a deadly earthquake. After Ethan makes his move on Alexa, but he flees the next day with no word of where he went or where he’s going. The only person who can help her cope with everything going on in her life is her best friend, Devin who stopped talking to her for 2 years. When Devin starts showing his feelings towards Alexa, she quickly realizes her feelings for him.

I like that we got some back-story and it wasn’t just a chapter or so long. It was a good portion and I enjoyed that aspect. We get to see more of Alexa’s childhood, along with Devin and her parents. You are just waiting for the one moment when everything comes crashing down. I honestly had a very difficult time putting the book down.

Literally this book hurt… T. Cupak is a fantastic author for sure and I’m dying for the sequel. It does leave on a cliffhanger so consider yourself warned. :) But I promise this is one you won’t regret reading!

This does include a include a love triangle, but in my opinion, it is one you have so many feelings towards. You literally fall for one, get crushed by him, fall for that one then get confused as Alexa is. I don’t know who to root for, Devin or Ethan… Both are swoon-worthy and both have sides that can be easy loved. Ethan, the bad boy who is mysterious; Devin, the sweetheart and best friend.

I cannot praise this book enough and even after a week of reading this, I’m still at a lose for words.

“I want you to be mine and mine alone, Lexi. I’ve waited too long for you, and I don’t plan to wait any longer.” — Alexa Crushed, T.R. Cupak

“Do you need to blow your nose?” he teases with a slight smile.

“Very funny, but yes,” I say as I snag the shirt from him and proceed to blow my nose with it. The sound that comes out is like a goose honk and is very unladylike.

“Now that right there is sexy,” he says, laughing at me. — Alexa Crushed, T.R. Cupak

July Wrap-up & August TBR

Hey everyone! I have been slacking so so much here on my blog… I apologize for that! Things have been crazy this summer between my laptop (still broken), having a friend visit, moving back home to my parents and working, I’ve been slacking on here… But I’m here to show that I haven’t neglected reading or that I haven’t been doing book-related things! I’m very active on Instagram (@bribookishconfessions) if you want to follow me there.

Last month, I read the same amount of books as I did in 2014… I’m really weirded out that it happened that way. I read 13 books and started 2 before the end of the month…

  1.  Destined for Dreams by Ginna Moran: ☆☆☆½
  2. One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy: ☆☆☆☆
  3. Where I Belong by J. Daniels: ☆☆☆☆☆
  4. Foreplay by Sophie Jordan: ☆☆☆☆
  5. Hey Sunshine by Tia Giacalone: ☆☆☆☆☆
  6. Wallbanger by Alice Clayton: ☆☆☆☆
  7. Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting: ☆☆☆☆☆
  8. Inked Armour by Helena Hunting: ☆☆☆☆☆
  9. The Secret of Ella and Micha: ☆☆☆½
  10. All I Want by J. Daniels: ☆☆☆☆☆
  11. With a Twist by Staci Hart: ☆☆☆☆½
  12. Rule by Jay Crownover: ☆☆☆☆☆
  13. Alexa Crushed by T. Cupak: ☆☆☆☆☆

I started If You Stay and Grey, which will be read before end of August. I’ve actually already finished If You Stay. ;)

I may may or may not follow this TBR. Especially for Harry Potter. Because I’m in such a new adult kick, my original goal was to have these 2 Harry Potter read last month and as you saw, that didn’t happen. :/ But, my goal is to have the series read before the end of the year. (If you didn’t know, I’m reading Harry Potter for the first time, so PLEASE no spoilers!!) I think this is very manageable honestly. I do have some orders, like Every Last Breath coming in the mail which will be on my TBR for the month, but I couldn’t include in the picture because I don’t have it yet. ;) I do hope to read these books in the picture though. We will see!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you haven’t noticed on my blog, I’m not reviewing every book I read anymore. I just don’t have the time or patience to review everything. Especially since I’m a fast reader. I don’t have time to write out 10+ full length reviews. If you go on ‘books I’ve read’ then under ‘books read in ’15’ it will bring up all the books I’ve read this year. At this time, I don’t have all the books linked with reviews, but at some point, all books will either be linked to a blog post (which will be a review book) or Goodreads where my short review immediately after finishing the book will be. I think this system will work better for me. However, if you’d like me to post my short reviews also on my blog, let me know.

Avery Kent knows that life can change in an instant: one second you’re on your way out of small-town life, the next you’re left heartbroken and stunned when your thrill-seeking high school boyfriend runs off in pursuit of a potentially dangerous dream.

Four years later, everything is different. When Chase returns, admitting he made a mistake and asking for a second chance, Avery wants to think she can trust him again.

But when the arrival of a handsome, quiet stranger named Fox shifts Avery’s focus, she realizes that things are about to get a lot more complicated.

When is a lot of history enough reason for a future? And how do you ignore the way someone makes you feel, especially when they were the last thing you ever expected?

what i thoughtI received a finished copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This does not reflect my feelings towards the book.

I had no idea I was going to love this book as much as I did. I read this with one of my friends and we are both obsessing over this book. This is easily, for both of us, one of our favorite books so far this year!! I’m so thankful that Tia contacted me asking to review this. This book was absolutely perfect. I’m obsessed with this book. There’s a certain type of guy I like and not to throw out spoilers, but Fox is one of those guys. Once you read this book, you will understand why. Guys like this make my heart burst into thousands of pieces.

Avery thought she had everything going for her, she had the perfect boyfriend, was a great student and was having a great life. Until, her boyfriend abruptly decides one night to leave unexpectedly to never let anyone, only his best friend in on what was going on. Four years later after Avery has been trying to get over him and deal with her crazy, hectic life, he comes back wanting a second chance. When that’s what she’s wanted all this time, but when she meets Fox, a man who gets a ride with Chase, is introduced… Maybe Chase wasn’t what she wanted.. Maybe it’s Fox. After all, it’s not all about Avery. There’s another figure in the picture that needs to be considered..

I literally cannot control my excitement for this book. Of all the review books I’ve done in the past, I was blown away at my love for this. Usually it’s books I pick up on my own time that are the ones that blows my mind (sad I know and odd, but it’s true)… This one absolutely took me surprise. I’m sure my friend, Monica will gladly have the same view. I HIGHLY encourage new adult fans to pick this up! I CANNOT stress how amazing it is!

Romance is ON POINT, characters are perfectly done, plot is SUPERB, EVERYTHING is AH-MAZ-ING!!!! I’m usually not one to re-read books, but this is definitely one of those that I will re-read again. I seriously cannot praise this book enough!

Easily a top 5 favorite book this year. Absolutely obsessed and DYING for December. NEED MORE!!!!!!

“Avery? Say something , please? I thought we were okay.”

“What are you doing?” I blurted. “Why are you doing all of this?”

Fox shoved his hands into his pockets and leaned against the truck. “I’m trying to be a part of your lives.” page 191

Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”

Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?

“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.

The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.

“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.

Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”

“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”

Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”

I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.

I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.

It was my wings.

They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.

“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”

“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.

I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”

Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”

He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”

Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

Cover Reveal: Together We Heal by Chelsea M. Cameron

TWH Amazon GR SW

Today we are revealing the cover for the upcoming book TOGETHER WE HEAL by Chelsea M. Cameron. This is the 4th book in the Fall and Rise series. This book will be released in August. Check out the blurb, and links to the other books in the series, below.

Trish Grant is not a romantic. Okay, so she may read her share of romance novels, but that doesn’t mean she thinks that some fellow with a six pack is going to ride up on a horse and sweep her (literally) off her feet. Romance like that just isn’t for her. It belongs on the page.

Max Jackson noticed Trish at his cousin’s funeral, of all places. She was hard to miss with her citrus-colored hair, violet contacts and fiery attitude.

Trish was just as captivated by Max. He makes her laugh, which is rare, and it doesn’t hurt that he rocks blue hair and the most killer smirk that drives her crazy. Max is there for her during a rough time and even if she wanted to, she can’t shake him.

There are things about Trish that Max doesn’t know, and she’s not going to tell him. She hasn’t told anyone and doesn’t plan on it, thank you very much. But when Trish’s life is ripped apart by a dark piece of her past, will she let Max in? Or will she give up her potential fairytale to protect her already-scarred heart from further damage?
