My Rating: 4.5 stars

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike.

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.

my thoughts 2

This was a fantastic sequel! It picked up right where Miss Peregrine’s left off and took off running. There was so much more character development that we didn’t really get to see in the first book because Ransom Riggs was setting up the world and everything that was going to start happening. So getting to see how these characters developed and changed throughout the course of this book was fantastic!

Miss Peregrine’s left off on a huge cliffhanger, we didn’t know if these peculiar children were going to survive or not. If they are able to find another loop or just shrivel up and die from time change.

I will admit I had a little trouble getting back into this world. I read Miss Peregrine’s back in October so I’ve read quite a few books in that time period. I had to try and refresh my mind a little to remember exactly where it ended and where this picked back up. Yes, I knew mostly what happened at the end, but some details were a little blurry. So my advice to those of you that want to start this series, either read them back to back or don’t let too many books go in between these. Unless your good at remembering details.

This is seriously a fantastic sequel and so much happens in just 400 pages! Be prepared to be sitting on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next.

Top Ten Tuesday: My Bookish Bucket List

This week’s theme is ‘Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List’. This is from last weeks T10T. Current top 10

.

This is in no particular order.

the fault in our stars1. Read The Fault in Our Stars! I’m like the ONLY human being that has not read this book yet! But, I have a reason! I’m not ready for insane tears and huge heartbreak just yet. I did buy the book in January. I am VERY excited to read it because I’ve heard nothing but absolutely AMAZING things about it, I’m just not ready yet! Give me time!!! :)

2. Read 100 books this year! As of March 11th (I write these posts in advance) I have read 24 books and I’m 6 books ahead of schedule. I’m doing pretty good!

3. Complete all my 9 challenges I’m participating in this year!!! I think I’m doing pretty well so far. Not doing to great on the vampire challenge, but I haven’t forgotten about it.

4. Catch up on my series/trilogies. Guys, if I actually show the series/trilogies I’ve finished it’s going to be embarrassing! … Well here it is..

  • The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
  • Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  • Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schrieber
  • Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
  • Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

If I post the series/trilogies I’m in… We will be here all day. Embarrassing right?! I know…

a game of thrones5. Read the Game of Thrones series! Guys, I’ve been watching the show since like season 2 was either over or just starting. I LOVE that show!!! I recently found out (like in August) that this was actually a series! I then saw how HUGE these books were and how slow they are to get through–because they are so big–it’s really intimidating. It’s kind of scary honestly..

6. Participate in a blog tour! I have yet to participate in one! Well, then again I’m not sure what to do honestly. I keep seeing people participating in them, but I never really understood what to do. They sound like a lot of fun and I really want to participate, I just have no clue what I’m supposed to do!

7. Go to more book events! I’ve only gone to the Ransom Riggs book signing which I think was in January? I believe… Here’s some pictures! :) I’m the one on the far right next to Whitney (if you guys watch BookTube videos.)

705ecca283ea11e3906f126496115136_894f7790683ea11e39a3012c7f8976b8f_8

But anyway, I really want to attend more book related events! I had so much fun at the signing! I REALLY wanted to go to BEA this year. But, unfortunately I can’t go. :( Maybe next year?? :(

8. Read Harry Potter! I never grew up with Harry Potter as a kid. I’m like one of the very few kids that didn’t grow up with it. I did however, watch the first movie when I was younger and honestly… The MASSIVE spiders freaked me out.. I never really was interested in reading them. I’m not going to be really disappointed if I don’t read them this year, it would be a great accomplishment, but I’m not going to beat myself up for it.

9. Make more book friends! I don’t really have many honestly. Maybe none. I’m not sure.. That’s bad… But I like having friends that have similar interests.. Books!? :)

10. Try and save money and not blow all my money on books–which BTW I don’t–. I always find books for at least half off. I haven’t paid full price for a book in a very long time. I’d rather have a used, pre-loved copy, than have a brand spanking new copy and spend $19 when I can get like 4 for the price of 1. It’s a better deal to me. :)

Top Ten Tuesday: All Time Favorite Books in the Paranormal Genre

This week’s theme is ‘Top Ten All Time Favorite Books in X Genre’.

This is in no particular order.

Some of these books can fall into other categories other than “paranormal” but I went ahead and made it the major genre. :)

miss pereguine's home for peculiar children city of bones vampire academy breaking dawn the summoning

1. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I think I would more categorize this as fantasy more as paranormal (well at least that’s how I have it on my shelves). But, this book was fantastic! The pictures make the story just that much more creepier. The story is so engaging and it was so so hard to put the book down!

2. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: I’m still in the middle of reading The Infernal Devices, so I can’t count it. But, however I am caught up on TMI and I absolutely love this series so much. I’m not looking forward to the end. This series includes any and every paranormal/supernatural creature you can possibly think of! That’s why I love it!!! The characters are so amazing and can vividly picture in your mind!

3. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: It’s been like 5 years since I’ve read this series, but I remember loving it so so so much. I absolutely love vampires to death (no pun intended). I went through a Twilight/vampire phase in high school when I saw Twilight. That phase lasted around a 1-1/2 year(s). Despite the cheesy covers and bad titles, this series is so definitely worth the read!

4. The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer: Okay, stop with the hate. I’m pretty sure almost everyone loved this series at one point. I know for dang sure I did! This series means the world to me and it holds a big place in my heart. I literally have a Twilight shrine on my bookshelf. The only things on that shelf are Twilight related. While all my other shelves are getting overstuffed, my Twilight shelf is all neat and has plenty of space. :) I don’t understand why now this series is getting so much hate? I love this series so very much and I will continue to love it until I die.

5. Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelley Armstrong: I’ve had The Summoning and the sequel on my shelves for about 4 years now. In January I FINALLY picked the book up! Why did I wait soo long to read it? I’m not sure.. Because it was FANTASTIC! Is it about witches? No.. Don’t fool yourself like I did for 4 years. This series may be very predictable, but the characters and the story are fantastic! The creepiness/scariness is what sold me on it!

the unbecoming of mara dyer these broken stars obsidian sweet evil the-host

6. Mara Dyer trilogy by Michelle Hodkin: I don’t even need to explain my recent love for this trilogy. I can’t even explain how FANTASTIC Michelle Hodkin’s writing style is. Your constantly wondering what’s real and what isn’t! Maybe it’s all a dream?! Maybe it’s real! But I know for a fact, Noah Shaw is real. ;)

7. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner: This book was absolutely AMAZING! I read it in December and absolutely fell for the two main characters! It’s not a normal love story that is centered around the love. It’s centered around the two main characters trying to survive on a planet by themselves with nothing but a small backpack and each other.

8. The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout: Okay… Seriously. Jennifer L. Armentrout is a queen! I’m not joking. I absolutely LOVE her writing style and the male characters she writes about! She makes the world’s best swoon-worthy, extremely sexy, and HOT men EVER! *cough* Daemon Black *cough* ;)

9. the Sweet Evil trilogy by Wendy Higgins: I adore this series so very much. It’s freaky how similar I am to the main character, Anna. I find myself in many ways just like her. It’s a little weird.. This series is so fantastic and I LOVE the angels/demons aspect of the story! Ohh, not to mention Mr. Kaidan. ;)

10. The Host by Stephenie Meyer: I read this book last summer and I absolutely loved it. It is a pretty big book, but totally worth it! Stephenie Meyer is one of my all time favorite authors, wait, she is my all time favorite author. Her stories have such a special place in my heart (as I’ve mentioned about Twilight above). After my Twilight phase, I stopped reading up until this last June. The book I picked up was this and that’s what got me back into reading again. Coincidence that it’s Stephenie Meyer that brought back my love for reading? Maybe.

hollow city

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
Series: Miss Pereguine #2
Publishing by: Quirk Books on January 14th, 2014
Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult
Pages: 352
Pre-Order the Book / Goodreads

In 1940 after the first book ends, Jacob and his new Welsh island friends flee to London, the Peculiar capital of the world. Caul, a dangerous madman, is Miss Peregrine’s brother, and can steal Peculiar abilities for himself. The Peculiars must fight for survival, again.

I’m so beyond excited for this one. #1: I LOVE and want to visit London. #2: Caul- who is Miss Peregrine’s brother has the ability to steal these peculiar children’s abilities (No I’m not spoiling anyone, it’s in the summary). #3: This cover is GORGEOUS! I really don’t want to wait around 3 months to get my hands on this book!
