Author: T.E. Black

When it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was worse.
My life turned into a whirlwind of destruction before I even got the chance to love her.

She could have been my angel, my saving grace; I never gave her the chance.

I gave myself a taste of her angelic kiss, convincing her to love with everything she had. Then I destroyed her. I destroyed both of us and I felt nothing as I did it.

I didn’t feel anything in my sorry state.

We both had secrets and both of them would have destroyed us in one way or another. Hers could have possibly been bigger than mine, but I doubted it from the start. I knew I had the quality of devastation within me the entire time.

After all, I’m the king of lies. I’m the king of addiction. I’m the king of turmoil. I’m the king of motherfucking heartbreak.

Wow, I’m kind of at a loss for words! T.E. Black has done it once again to bring another roller coaster of emotions to your Kindle. If you thought Finding a Way was a roller coaster, just you wait until this.
Shay Kirby is a single mom just trying to find her happy ending like everyone else. She has been kicked around and put down many times through her life. Trent Wallace is your typical badboy manwhore. He’s sexy, tattooed, and owns a tattoo shop. Both Shay and Trent have secrets that neither want to reveal. They are immediately attracted to each other right off the bat, but try to distance themselves. When Trent starts to push to see Shay more, secrets start slipping through the cracks. The biggest ones staying hidden for as long as possible. Having a relationship start with secrets and lies, makes for a very rocky relationship for the 2.
This book could have gone so many ways and I’m very happy with the ending! I was getting very nervous about how this book would play out. I caught on to a couple of the secrets but some completely took me by surprise.
You will hate Trent to the ends of Earth, want to punch him at times, but then fall hardcore for him. He’s a very frustrating character, yet you can’t help but fall in love with him like Shay did. Especially the ending… My heart.. I was sooo close to happy tears at the end and usually it’s sad tears. I don’t normally get happy tears while reading, so I guess that should say something?
Shay was such a bad@$$ character, I loved her character from the beginning. She is extremely determined that Abby (her daughter) get the best out of life that she can provide. Seeing their relationship is one that I think all moms and daughters want.
I loved seeing the original 4 again (Callie/Mac & Sierra/Evan) and getting introduced to some new characters was just as amazing! I know Gunner’s book is going to be a roller coaster as well.

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes an electrifying new spin-off series,Saints of Denver, featuring all the characters fans have been dying to read about.

Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk, he’s all denim and flannel.

Zeb’s wanted the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her. It doesn’t matter how many smooth moves he makes, the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest—either that or she doesn’t return it. Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior.

But just as things start to heat up, Zeb is blindsided by a life altering moment from his past. He needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. He can’t risk what’s at stake just because his attraction to Sayer feels all consuming. But as these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, battling together to save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide can no longer be ignored.Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller are as different as two people can be. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and kill it and grill it. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk while he’s denim and flannel.

The differences between the two of them don’t stop Zeb from dropping every hint he can think of that he would like to get to know her on a more personal level, but Sayer seems oblivious to his interest or is just too nice to tell him to take a hike. To Sayer, a guy like Zeb could never be interested in someone as reserved and boring as she is. She’s never been with anyone that was hot enough to melt the icy exterior she’s had wrapped around hera since her awful childhood. But what if Zeb is the one who might finally thaw her out…?

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from Ink Slinger PR. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was my first book of the year and 2nd book I’ve read by this amazing author! Rule was one of my favorite books last year, so I had a feeling I would love this book just as much. Jay Crownover creates such swoon-worthy men, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to fall for their stories. :)
Zeb and Sayer couldn’t be any different – as it goes, opposites attract! She’s a lawyer and he runs a construction company. Both have had things happen in the past, both affecting them hard. Sayer is an “ice queen” and Zeb was a prisoner. Zeb helps Sayer build her dream home and she helps him deal with a case. They start spending more time with each other; Zeb wants to be with her and Sayer doesn’t want to (but she secretly does). Can Sayer get passed her issues from her past or will it drive Zeb away?
I have only read Rule from the Marked Men series so I was really worried I would get spoiled. Built is a spin-off from Marked Men so we do see some of the boys from the previous series make their appearance with their significant others. My biggest concern was having major plots spoiled from the series, but that wasn’t the case. Yes, we get a glimpse of who they end up with and what happens years down the road (as in kids), but that didn’t bother me. I have been dying to continue the MM series since I read the first, now I feel even more excited to do so.
I have fallen completely head over heels over Zeb (then again, who wouldn’t?!). I haven’t met too many bearded men, let alone ones that are also tattooed. I think Zeb has ruined all other future book boyfriends for me. ;) I was worried after the first few chapters that I wasn’t going to fall for these characters, but it progressed VERY quickly and as I said, I fell hard. I couldn’t help but be frustrated at Sayer, it drove me crazy. But seeing her work through her issues and really try, it warmed my heart and she definitely made the list for favorite females.

I hope Poppy gets a story- I feel like hers is going to be a struggle (DUH), but I really enjoyed her character. If I had to pick a favorite side character that I feel deserves their own story– she would be it!
You guys have to pick this up! Even if you haven’t started MM, or have only read a few, this CAN be read as a standalone- it is mentioned in the beginning. Just know, you will be spoiled with who ends up with who and get a glimpse of the couples’ futures. This however, wasn’t something that bothered me. I’m very serious about not skipping books in series, even if this is a spin off. But with this, I feel like its okay to skip.

Beckett Fox lives his life on the edge between danger and responsibility, and that’s all he’s ever known… until he meets Avery. Now, time at home is more appealing than the do-or-die future he’d always pictured for himself.

Fox has everything he’s ever wanted. But he knows better than anyone that life can change direction faster than the wind.

When an accident threatens to destroy his entire world, Fox will have to choose between fighting for what he loves or letting his past dictate his future.

How much strength does it take to move forward when history seems determined to knock you down? And how do you find the path to redemption when you don’t even recognize your own life?

what i thoughtI received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

If you guys follow me on Instagram then you probably already know how much I adore Hey Sunshine, the first book in the series. I read it this summer and since then I have been DYING to know what happened next, it has been killing me not knowing. Hey Sunshine DOES end in a pretty big cliffhanger, but those of you that haven’t read the first book are in luck… You’ll have the opportunity to pick up book 2 immediately. ;)

The prologue is set in Avery’s point of view. Hey Sunshine from what I remember is all Avery’s point of view. The entire book is in Mr. Beckett Fox’s point of view. Which was surprising at first, I expected it to alternate like a lot of new adult books do nowadays. Nope, all in Fox’s point of view. Which, considering what happens (to avoid spoilers I won’t say), it was a breath of fresh air and nice to see things in his perspective. ESPECIALLY with what happened. Again, no spoilers. ;)

I felt like I read a completely different story to be honest — in the best way possible. This was a completely different vibe and tone compared to Hey Sunshine. I was anxious and nervous pretty much this entire book. I wasn’t sure how this was going to play out. Also, because Tia hates all of us (TOTALLY kidding 120%; just my fangirl speaking), this ALSO ends in a cliffhanger — be warned! HOWEVER, you HAVE to read this if your a fan of new adult. I will continuously recommend this series at every opportunity I get. I personally think cliffhangers are fun! Yes, the waiting is not all that fun — but we get all excited for the sequel!

Fox is my babe forever and I’m pretty sure I fell in more love with him (if that’s even possible). I have fallen deep for these characters and I’m so incredibly attached to them. When it does come time to say goodbye, it’s going to be very difficult.

Tia Giacalone is one of my all time favorite authors; she’s an incredibly talented author and her books aren’t getting the love they deserve. You need to meet the gang; Avery, Annabelle, Fox and the whole family! It is IMPOSSIBLE not to fall in love with them, they all have a HUGE chunk of my heart and will continue to hold that chunk forever. AB-SO-LUTE-LY LOVED!

what i thought

I received a finished copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Cute, light-hearted romance. A breath of fresh air from a lot of NA I’ve read lately. I was born in Cali, but never got to see Napa/Sonoma area, and getting to see it through this story made me feel like I was there. Kate’s writing is fantastic!

This is a fairly short book, about 150 pages, I read it probably within 2 1/2 hours maybe 3 hours.

Sarah has had a rough life, she has lost her mom and to top it off she catches her fiance having sex with someone at her own bakery. Sarah moves to Sonoma Valley and opens a new bakery. There she meets Jamie Santino, an actor looking to get some bakery lessons for an upcoming movie. He’s 1 of 6 brothers in the family and all of them are fine looking men. Things heat between the 2 as lessons progress.

Cute, fluffy, light-hearted, very fast read. Loved it!! Can’t wait for more books by Kate Kisset!

Past. Everyone has one. It shapes the person they become. It determines the present. It even contributes to the future. And sometimes, people are thrown together in spite of it.

It was no secret that Megan Verona was raped. It crippled her being, turning her from a vibrant young woman to someone who feared intimacy. After years of struggling, she decided to seek help with a therapist, Declan Connors, in hopes of being able to finally have a relationship. Declan wanted to help Megan; he wanted to help everyone who sought his aid, but she was different. She consumed his thoughts until he could no longer deny his feelings. He hadn’t expected to fall for her and fall hard, but he did. It was a wonder when she returned some of his sentiment. But, like everyone, Declan also has a past, one riddled with pain and anguish, one he hadn’t fully dealt with.

If helping Megan brought out his own shadows, what did loving her do? How do both their pasts play a role in their future? Most importantly, can they conquer the past that threw them together?

Author Note: This book is not for everyone. Although the overall story is strictly contemporary romance fiction, it does deal with some heavy situations – namely rape and PTSD. Do not read this if you have triggers. I also want to say that I do NOT in any way condone rape. The plot of this story is simply that – a story. It is a work of fiction and should be considered so when reading. Thank you.

what i thought

I received a finished copy in exchange for an honest review from the author. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was such an emotional, dark read. It covers a touchy subject that can often be difficult to write about in a book… That topic being rape. Our main character, Megan at 16 years old was brutally raped and left for dead. 7 years later and gone through countless therapists who can’t seem to bring the intimacy she wants, looks one last time. Her new therapist is ex-Marine, Declan. He truly wants to help those that come into his office. He too has struggled through a lot in the past and he wants to bring that help to others. But as truths come out and dark secrets are uncovered, it may not be something that can be fixed for Megan and Declan… But can they make it work?

I did catch on towards the beginning what was going to happen later in the book but didn’t think it was actually going to happen. When it did happen I was still extremely shocked that it was true. This was such a beautiful read despite what all these 2 characters have gone through in their lives. I did feel I couldn’t fully connect with the characters. It is told mostly through Declan’s point of view, but kind of as if a ghost was following him around narrating his thoughts.

I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to more of D.C.’s books! :D

Kassandra Cole has it all—a stable home with great parents, popularity and all the friends she could ever need. She is used to a lifestyle where everything comes easy to her, from good grades to being captain of the cheerleading squad.

Her entire world is shaken to the core when a fatal accident takes her father, causing Kassandra to re-examine the course her life was on. The actions of one individual forever changes her life, leaving her to pick up the pieces of her broken family. Kassandra begins to question everything she once cherished and the people she disappointed along the way.

Maddon Johnson’s life is as different from Kassandra’s as night and day. Abandoned by his mother at a young age, he is left to deal with his abusive, alcoholic father on his own. He has one goal: lay low and get the heck out of dodge as soon as he is legally old enough.

Everything changes when his father’s tragic actions send Maddon crashing into Kassandra’s world. Suddenly, getting away is the last thing he wants as he discovers it is possible to believe in love after all.

what i thought

Kassandra lost her father to a car accident caused by Maddon’s father. Maddon is a guy that goes to the same school as Kassandra. After loosing her father so suddenly, Kassandra is struggling to find who she is and who she wants to be. The life before the death of her father seems almost unreal to her. Maddon just wants to comfort Kassandra and take her pain away but he knows that will never happen. Kassandra hates Maddon and that his dad killed hers.

Kassandra not only is a teenager, but after the death of her father, she has to care for her little sister. Their mom fell into a grieving period where it was almost as if she wasn’t there. As Kassandra learns more about herself and who she wants to be, she starts to get close to the one person she NEVER wanted to look at again, Maddon.

So much craziness in less than 300 pages in dual perspective! I recently, as in this year, started reading Tiffany’s books and have become obsessed to say the least. She is very good at writing an emotional read without taking it too far or making it unrealistic.

I loved Kassandra’s character; she is incredibly strong for someone so young and what has been placed on her shoulders. Caring for her younger sister wasn’t easy. I love that despite the death of their dad and the grief, she was able to put her emotions aside and truly care for her sister and even her mom. Maddon was such a sweet guy, you can’t help but love him.

Life moves on, forgive and just move on! :)

Life has been a constant challenge for Jake Lewis. Left paralyzed emotionally and physically by a car accident, which killed his parents when he was just twelve years old, Jake struggles to be happy. His best friends, Rick Welsh and Samantha Andrews, are a couple who fight as passionately as they make up. This puts Jake in an awkward position. Three friends who are as close as can be. Rick Welsh, the hotshot basketball player, who hopes to leave college and go pro. Samantha Andrews, the brainiac, blessed with common sense and beauty. Jake Lewis, the crippled virgin, who believes no girl could love a damaged guy with a disability. In despair, these friends share a moment that will forever change their lives. Life is messy. Love is complicated. True love doesn’t always come wrapped in a pretty package with a bow on top. Is it possible that the friend you never had sexual feelings for is the person who will touch your soul like no other?

what i thoughtVery quick and cute read. Read this in like an hour or so! Because this was such a quick read, not much development I felt happened. But, nonetheless I very much enjoyed this story!

Jake, our main character was such a sweetheart and I couldn’t help the little crush that developed. After permanently damaging his leg, he has always had difficulty with it. He believed he couldn’t be loved because of his legs and that girls wouldn’t like him..

This completely broke my heart. Again, it was hard not to fall for him. After losing so much in his life, he’s pretty much given up.

I’d recommend to those wanting something quick and something heart-felt. I believe this would be perfect for it.

Born the daughter of a rock star and his groupie, my life should have been full of glitz and glamour. But the excess and embarrassment of that life didn’t interest me. Instead, I killed time at Vintage, a record store where I stocked shelves and lacked ambition.

Everything changed the moment I pressed play. One simple lyric awakened me.

When I stopped denying my attraction to the man behind the music, I started questioning his intentions. We were meant to cross paths, but it wasn’t because of fate.

Someone was playing with our lives.

what i thought

Roxy (CC or Jimi) has a close, tight-knit group of friends and family. She is the daughter of a rock legend and because of her dad, this is why she has a small group of people. Most people she has tried to let into her life, has abused that relationship to get closer to her rock-star father. Even though she has a small group, the one person she can trust more than anything is her dad. However, Roxy doesn’t like living under her dad’s legend, she just wants a normal life. Roxy works at a music coffee shop called Vintage. There, she meets Parker who is in an upcoming band and she is immediately drawn to him. Having kept her emotions dormant for so long, after spending just a little time with Parker, those feelings are starting to resurface. Just when she thinks meeting Parker was fate, she finds out that it was planned.

I have always enjoyed music related romance stories! I wanted to at times, strangle the main character for being so frustrating, but I do understand why. This was a quick read and Lisa does a fantastic job at grabbing your attention. Not a moment passed where I felt I needed to take a break from reading. There was always something going on and it was impossible to put down because of it. The constant suspense of who’s doing what, what’s going to happen, and everything, it seriously was hard to put down.

The reason why this is 4 stars is because I felt I didn’t get enough of Parker. With everything going on in this book, I think with adding Parker’s perspective (even if it was just a couple chapters here and there) I would have been able to follow him better. With an added perspective, I think this could have been a 4.5 or even a 5 star rating!

This does end on a cliffhanger, just so you are warned. I’m very curious to see how this will play out!

**This book is intended for a mature reading audience and isn’t suitable for readers under the age of 17.**

In love with a man on the brinks of greatness, Dee has her life figured out. The love they share is comparable only to the love they feel when they find out Dee is pregnant. Josh and Dee welcome their future together with eagerness as they plan a wedding, baby, and the upcoming tour for Josh’s band Wasted Circle. Big things are finally happening.

During Wasted Circle’s first big show, tragedy strikes leaving Dee alone. The life she and Josh planned for ends up being nothing but desolate promises. Unable to watch his best friend’s girlfriend drown under her own despair any longer, Adam steps in to help Dee cope with her loss and the upcoming birth of her baby. Adam is patient, kind and unrelenting. He stands by her side, never faltering despite his growing desire to be more than Dee’s supportive shoulder and the idea that he is betraying Josh. He refuses to give up on Dee and remains loyally by her side even when she admits herself into a psychiatric ward and he is left to father Josh and Dee’s baby.

But even sweet and sturdy Adam has his limits.

what i thought

Who doesn’t love a good emotional and a crazy roller coaster type of book?!

Dee has always had a rough life until meeting Josh. They were meant for each other. Josh is part of a band called Wasted Circle, and Dee and Josh’s best friend, Adam is part of that band. Dee has just found out that she is pregnant. But tragedy strikes and Dee can’t take it. She falls into a depression and if it weren’t for Adam to hold her along the way, no one knows if she would have survived it. With the love and support of Adam, Dee continues her life, but it isn’t easy.

Okay, Adam is one of the sweetest guys I have ever come across. He literally drops everything to care for Dee, and when the baby arrives, the baby as well. He has a special place in my heart for sure! Yessi Smith did an amazing job with side characters as well! We are introduced to multiple characters such as the HILARIOUS, Hayley and the wicked witch, Amber. I will quickly say, parents like Dee’s are ones I ABSOLUTELY despise. I don’t care what kind of excuse they come up with down the road. Plain and simple, you have a kid and it’s supposed to be your pride and joy. On a better note, Hayley was seriously hilarious! She is one of those friends, that while reading the scenes with her, you literally start dying of laughter.

I did however wish for more in the end, I was confused at first because I wasn’t sure what was going on. I would have liked to see an epilogue from Dee or Adam’s point of view. Why this isn’t 5 stars is because I felt the pacing was a little fast for me, but overall I’m VERY happy with the events that turned out. I’m excited to read more of Yessi’s books!

I am finally free.
This is my chance for a fresh start.
My chance to live the way I want to.
Boston is my destination.

Just when I think things are going to get better from here, I meet him.

Malcolm Davis.

He is the image of masculinity, with rough edges I would love to soften. Although I wonder what it would be like to be with a man like him, I know it would never work. But, I do know two things, ever since I met him, I’m happy and he makes me feel safe. Both of those things lured me into taking a chance. I mean what’s life without taking any chances? It’s not much of a life without the risk of getting your heart broken.

I imagine that for Malcolm Davis, falling in love with someone would be akin to a hurricane; anything that stands in the path of what he wants; gets demolished.

Well, I guess my theory will be put to the test.

what i thoughtLove, love, LOVED this book! I usually never read synopsis’ anymore. If I do, I usually forget it by the time I start the book. This book was not what I expected it to be. I had a feeling something happened to one of the characters, but not like this. But all good things – I adored this book and I could not put it down.

Callie has fallen into a depression after a fatal car accident that took the life of her fiance. Grieve stricken, but determined to continue on with her life, her parents force her to follow through with her therapy. After receiving the “O.K.” from her therapist, she packs her things and moves to Chicago to pursue her dream of going to university there. She is staying with Sierra and her boyfriend. She is then introduced to the drop dead, panty dropping, Mac. In Chicago, he is very well known; all the ladies know of him and know how he is in bed. Not only does Callie have a rough past, Mac also has one. In and out of the foster system, he was finally adopted to a loving family at 16 years old. But that’s not all, he’s lost someone very close to him in a tragic way as well. Lives for these two haven’t been easy to say the least…

Callie and Mac were the cutest, yet most frustrating couple. I wanted to strangle the two of them for a long time! Their chemistry even at the beginning is (at least I think) the kind of love everyone wants. Mac was seriously just drop dead sexy. Dear lord, I highlighted this book like CRAZY!

This being T.E.’s debut, I’m blown away with her writing. You’d think she’s been a writer a long time and has a bunch of books published… Nope. This is her first and I know in time, her books are only going to get even better. She has become a favorite author of mine even with just reading one book.

Can’t praise this book enough- I WILL own a paperback very soon to add to my shelves! Highly recommended! But take into consideration the emotional toll this will take on you- it’s not a light read. But, oh was the heart break totally worth it!
